hosa-logo(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Jan. 16, LRHS HOSA attended the Gulf Coast Regional conference at Manatee Technical College.

HOSA is a national organization for students interested in health care careers.

Members competed in various competitions to place and qualify for state conference in Orlando.

Competitions included Public Health, Pharmacy Science, Medical Spelling, Public Service Announcement and more.

Senior Chris Georgas said, “This was my first HOSA regionals and I had so much fun. I am so proud of my team for placing second and can’t wait to go to states.”

LRHS HOSA had 13 teams. Of these, 19 members qualified for the state conference and 24 members placed in the top five.

Sophomore Surain Ranajee said, “Placing first was so amazing. My team and I worked so hard, and even though one of our members got sick the day of competition, we managed to push through.”

Florida HOSA president Sricharan Pusala attended the conference and introduced all the winners while passing out medals alongside the regional officers.

Alongside competing, Pusala had members participate in games that helped them bond with people across the region. The games included things such as Making a Mummy, Medical Taboo, and Simon Says.

LRHS senior Cameron Willis said, “I loved meeting the state president. He was really kind and made the award ceremony a lot of fun.”

LHRS HOSA adviser Carol Lidey said, “I am more proud of the relationships HOSA has created then the awards they have won.”
