Carson Manning-Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) competed at their District Conference on Saturday Jan. 11, at Southeast High School. Out of 500 students district-wide, 15 LRHS students qualified for the state competition.
“Districts this year was fabulous,” said LRHS FBLA adviser and business teacher Roberta Colson. “We had a great showing.”
FBLA competed in events such as Job Interview, Agribusiness, and Advertising. The qualifying students will compete in states later this year and hope to qualify for the National Conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Students who succeeded include –
|1||Job Interview||Chloe Swift|
|1||Personal Finance||Porter Santas|
|1||Word Processing||Ethan Nicholls|
|2||Computer Problem Solving||Ryan Hillock|
|2||Political Science||Alexander Dantoulis|
|3||Business Communication||McKenna Agnew|
|4||Computer Problem Solving||Connor Schrand|
|5||Impromptu Speaking||Robert Macchio|
|6||Computer Problem Solving||Justin Strum|
“I would love to see some of our members place high enough to go to Nationals this summer,” said Colson.
At Districts, the judges asked in-depth questions and made the students think on their feet. The students really enjoyed the interaction a lot more and it helped to boost their confidence.
In the future Colson hopes to set up practice trials to help students adjust to the competition set up. This will hopefully boost the students’ confidence for the upcoming competition.
“Talking in front of people you know is a lot easier than talking to strangers,” said Colson. “Practice trials would help them to better prepare themselves for state competition.”
Colson said FBLA is excited for what is to come and hopes to continue to improve as the year goes on.
