Girls soccer ready for some big games

free soccer picture.jpeg(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS girls varsity soccer team continues to dominate as they finish up their season.

Thursday, Jan. 9, the team played Cardinal Mooney at home for the first time in years. They secured the win with a final score of 2-1.

More recently, the team defeated the Sarasota Riverview 3-0 on Monday, Jan. 14.

Senior goalkeeper Heather Jones secured the shut out with a one-on-one save in the second half.

Jones said, “I’m very proud of my team. We all have a job to do on the fields and tonight, no area was weak.”

The team’s most important regular season games are coming up, with Braden River away on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7:00, and Senior Night against North Port at home on Friday, Jan. 17, at 7:30.

Next week the girls will play a challenging away game against Venice, who are ranked 16th in the state, on Tuesday, Jan. 21, at 7 p.m. On Thursday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. the girls finish the week away at Lemon Bay.

Coach Delaney Riggins said, “These next couple weeks are by far the most important weeks of the season. We are trying to maintain our district ranking, along with making last minute improvements to get ready for playoffs coming up.”
