Hiral Patel – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS is saying goodbye to substitute teacher Jake Dube. He has been filling in for social studies teacher Nadia Matijasevic while she is on maternity leave.
Dube graduated from LRHS in 2015. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in teaching from Briar Cliff University, Dube decided to come back to his former high school to teach.
“Teaching at LRHS was a great experience and it helped open my eyes to what I am capable of,” said Dube. “It has helped me gain respect for both teaching and the students.”
As well as teaching, Dube has also gotten involved with the LRHS soccer team by helping them at practice.
“Soccer is my expertise and it is something I enjoy doing while working as a teacher,” said Dube.
Working in a classroom environment Dube has learned many life skills.
“I learned to have patience with all my students and hear them out. I also try to remember everyone comes from different backgrounds,” said Dube. “The students helped me to realize I need to be more selfless and think about others.”
Freshman Mahi Patel is a student of Dube’s. She has enjoyed both the environment in his class and his teaching style.
“Though he has a different teaching style from Matijasevic, he makes class enjoyable and entertaining,” said Patel.
Freshman Nathan Bell has also enjoyed Dube’s teaching.
“He makes the class both easy and fun,” said Bell.
Enjoying his time as a substitute LRHS, Dube hopes to stay and teach his own class next year.
“If given the opportunity to teach at LRHS again I would take it,” said Dube, “I would love to teach at this school in the future.”
