NEWS(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- This weekend three Mustang band members attended the Florida Music Education Association (FMEA) All State Band Conference.

The band consists of the best students from across the state of Florida who come together to perform a concert on Saturday night. Music that students play for the event comes out in May and the audition takes place in September.

Sophomores Sara Hutchinson, Ben Rosasco and senior Eric Miller have been preparing for months to participate in the event.

Music Director Ron Lambert said, “The audition is extensive and takes a year’s preparation.”

The members are expected to prepare technical and lyrical material as well as the 12 major scales and chromatic scales which are expected to be performed at a high level.

Sophomore euphonium player Hutchinson said, “To prepare for All State, I practice an hour a day almost every day even throughout the summer.”

Lambert also said, “The students rehearse for a total of 16 hours while teachers attend workshops and conferences.”
