JROTC(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program annual Winter Formal is around the corner.

It will be held on Friday, Jan. 10 from 6p.m. to 11p.m. at the Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club. Although it is a private event, each cadet can bring a guest.

The Winter Formal is not only part of the JROTC curriculum, but shows the cadets proper customs, courtesies, and formal protocols. Cadets go through a formal receiving line, eat dinner together, and then dance until the event is over.

LRHS JROTC senior army instructor (SAI) Lt. Col. Richard Roller said, “This kind of event shows the cadets appropriate customs, and how to act in formal settings. At some point in their lives, they’ll have to attend more formal events, such as weddings.”

Roller continued, “With this kind of thing, they learn behaviors that help them grow from children into young adults.”

Junior Jace Grayson, the Battalion Operations Sergeant Major (OPS SGM) commented, “I am most excited for the formal experience, as this formal event is an opportunity to be educated on proper etiquette.”

This event is mandatory for cadets, as it is one of the two formal events the program is required to have per year. The other is the award ceremony towards the end of the year.

“This event requires a lot of coordination and decorating, as well as booking the venue. However, it’s all worth it after the event,” said senior Natalie Merrill, the Battalion Executive Officer (XO).
