nhs logo(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS National Honor Society (NHS) conducted their final general meeting of the semester on Tuesday.

This year’s NHS t-shirts were distributed during the meeting. If any NHS member could not attend the meeting and/or did not receive their t-shirt, they can go to NHS Advisor Mary Ellen Eskett’s room (917) before or after school to pick it up.

The 12 community volunteer hours required for NHS members will be due Monday, Dec 9. Hours should be placed in the pink box located outside Eskett’s classroom.

These 12 hours can all be done within the club or eight hours can be completed in the club and four can be completed outside the club. If an NHS member is completing outside hours, they should put all their NHS hours on one community hour sheet and their outside on another.

There are two final events this weekend for members who have not completed their hours.

There is the “Sledding with Santa” event on Friday night and there is the Gullet elementary volunteering event Saturday morning. Once these events’ sign-ups are full, there will be no further hours available this semester.

“If you have not been coming to meetings, have not paid our dues, if you have waited until the very end to sign up for volunteer opportunities, you will be given notice that you must attend the Jan. 3 probation day from 9 am-12 noon,” stated Eskett.

Members who failed to meet the requirements above will serve probation by cleaning LRHS’s library for three hours. Failure to attend probation will lead to removal from NHS.

“The end of the semester is stressful for all students. With midterms coming up, getting hours done early is very important,” exclaimed NHS member senior Emma Brooks.
