Sports(Lakewood Ranch FL.)- Five LRHS softball standouts have been named in the top 100 in the nation’s 2020 recruiting class. The ExtraInnings class of 2020 extra elite 100 rankings were released at the end of October. The FloSoftball “Hot 100” rankings were released at the beginning of November.

  • Avery Goelz is a three-time class 8A offensive player of the year and University of Florida softball signee. Goelz ranked fourth in the class of 2020 by ExtraInnings Softball. Additionally, she ranked the 11th senior in the country by FloSoftball.
  • Claire Davidson is the 2019 class 8A pitcher of the year and a Duke University signee. Davidson was ranked the 35th senior in the country by Extrainnings Softball and 45th by FloSoftball.
  • Kali Reis is a first team all-state honoree and University of Florida signee. Reis ranked 77th in the Class of 2020 by ExtraInning Softball and 69th by FloSoftball.
  • McKenzie Clark is an All State Catcher and Clemson University signee. Clark was ranked 19th in the 2020 class by ExtraInning Softball and 38th by FloSoftball.
  • Payton Kinney is a University of Connecticut signee. Kinney ranked the 95th in the class of 2020 by FloSoftball.

“It’s definitely an honor to be ranked in the top 100 and it’s a motivator to continue to stay there. However, I don’t focus on the rankings too much because my ranking doesn’t have any effect on the success of my team or the work that we all still have to do,” said Davidson.

LRHS softball varsity head coach TJ Goelz said, “I enjoy coaching hard-working, dedicated, success-oriented players and the five Lakewood Ranch Varsity Softball players named to the 100 best prospects in the nation in the 2020 class are just that. All five have worked very hard and performed very well at the national level.”

Goelz has been fortunate to coach these Mustangs on his number-two nationally ranked travel ball team, Tampa Mustangs-TJ.

“They have raised the bar at Lakewood Ranch High School to the highest level ever seen and now they are looking to complete their careers with a state championship.  With this many nationally ranked players, last year’s amazing season, and the fact that almost everyone is back for 2020, I expect the team to be a top five nationally ranked team again and, this time, complete the mission.”

The 2020 softball Mustangs will begin their mission of winning “one more” and getting that state champion when tryouts begin Jan. 20-22, 2020.
