Schuyler Young– Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- With Thanksgiving and the holidays on the way, LRHS held a food drive to assist those who are less fortunate.
The canned food drive is held anually, but this turned out to be the most successful year to date.
The drive concluded with 4,863 donated cans of food, more than twice as many cans as last year’s total.
This year’s biggest contributor was Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC), bringing in 2002 cans of food.
LRHS food drive organizer English teacher Candy DeLazzer said that she is extremely happy with the results and said all donations were welcome.
“Thank you to all of you who brought in even one or two cans to contribute,” she said. “Thanks to all of you, many more families in Manatee and Sarasota counties will have a happy Thanksgiving.”
All donations go to the Mayors Feed the Hungry campaign, an organization that gathers food for all communities around Sarasota and Bradenton.
The campaign welcomes anybody to come to the food bank and get food for their organization.
She even added that while picking up the materials one of the collectors exclaimed, “There are more boxes here than we picked up from any other school.”
