Kara Smith-Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This past fall, LRHS HOSA was featured in the International HOSA eMagazine. In order to be featured, LRHS HOSA had to participate in HOSA’s national service project.
National Pediatric Research Foundation (NPCF) is HOSA’s national service project, and chapters are encouraged to engage with the project in any way they can.
On Sept. 7, LRHS HOSA members volunteered and attended the NPCF Fashion Funds the Cure event at The University Town Center Mall in Sarasota, Florida. The event included a silent auction and a fashion show featuring pediatric cancer patients in order to raise money and promote the foundation’s cause.
President-Elect sophomore Julia Felice said, “I’m so happy. I can’t believe our chapter made it into an international HOSA magazine. I’m sad I couldn’t personally attend the event but our chapter being featured in the magazine is definitely a dream come true.”
Alongside volunteering at and attending the Fashion Funds the Cure event, LRHS HOSA has planned a car wash in which all proceeds will be donated to NPCF.
The donation-only car wash is scheduled for 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Nov. 23 in the parking lot of Ace Hardware at 2401 Lakewood Ranch Blvd. HOSA officers and members will volunteer at the event and bring supplies to clean the cars.
LRHS HOSA Vice President Cameron Willis, senior, said, “I think that showing our support and fundraising for NPCF will encourage other HOSA members to do the same. That’s why we planned a car wash fundraiser. We hope to see a lot of people come and support such an important cause.”
