Ally Ellis – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Over the last couple of weeks, LRHS seniors have been starting to hear back from colleges as to whether or not they have been admitted.
Colleges like University of Central Florida (UCF), University of South Florida (USF) and Florida Atlantic University (FAU) among others have what are called “rolling admissions”. This means that colleges are able to contact a student within the span of six months as to if they got admitted or not.
“The worst part about rolling admissions is knowing you may find out tomorrow, or that you may find out in 6 months. It is just a waiting game at this point, but I know I did everything I could to have my best application,” said LRHS senior Brittney McFarlin.
Fellow senior Brooke Martin said, “I was so happy to receive my acceptance letter for UCF. It is so crazy that we are already hearing back from colleges.”
The University of Florida (UF) and Florida State University (FSU) don’t have rolling admissions. UF will release information as to who is admitted on Feb. 28, 2020 and FSU will release on Jan. 30 of 2020.
Some Mustangs feel rolling admissions bring too much stress to students who keep checking up on their admissions status.
This stress will continue until May 1,, national college decision day. Until then, seniors will be hearing back or will be patiently waiting.
“The best thing a senior can do right now, is be patient, keep up their semester grades, as well as be able to enjoy their senior year without letting college stress affect them,” said senior Declan Traver.
