(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS Quill and Scroll club is hosting a canned food drive to support the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry campaign, an effort to provide non-perishable foods for families in Manatee and Sarasota counties.

The Mayors’ Feed the Hungry is also supported by Publix, Gettel Motors and Bay News 9.

The drive started Nov. 11 and Mustangs must bring their canned items to first period classes by Nov. 21.

National Honors Society (NHS) and Lakewood Leaders will help Quill and Scroll load and organize all the donation in boxes.

Last year Quill and Scroll collected over 1800 items. The club hopes to beat last year’s number and reach their desired goal of 5000.

Quill and Scroll adviser and LRHS English teacher Candace Delazzer said that many teachers provide students incentives to donate. This can create competition between classes and reward Mustangs who bring in supplies.

Delazzer said donating one item can make a difference. For more information on how to contribute, please visit .
