Mustang girls finish seventh in state cross country

sports logo(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Last weekend the LRHS varsity girls cross country team traveled to Tallahassee to compete in the class 4A state meet.

It was the first time the Mustangs qualified since 2016.

The Mustangs placed seventh in the state with a score of 236 points.

“This weekend all of the Lady Mustangs’ hard work and dedication came to fruition, culminating in the best team placement our team has had since 2012,” said coach Kristin Wikstrom. “Each athlete ran with heart and determination, resulting in our team placing five places higher than their state ranking.”

The athlete’s state results are:

  • Jessica Neal placed 12th with a time of 18:42
  • Mason Ingallinera placed 34th with a time of 19:31
  • Aurora Melzer placed 45th with a time of 19:40
  • Emma Paliotta placed 80th with a time of 20:04
  • Sydney Granack placed 101st with a time of 20:20
  • Tamlyn Leatt placed 131st with a time of 20:51
  • Riley Bradshaw placed 185th with a time 21:57

“I am so proud of our team, as individuals and as a whole,” said Granack. “I couldn’t have asked for a better season”.

Many of the athletes will continue their running career with track and field in the spring.
