LRHS FFA gets state recognition, national experience

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- During the past week, four LRHS FFA students attended the National FFA Convention and Expo in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Senior Chloe Flournoy and juniors Kendall Munger, junior, Savannah Cannon, , Mandy Floresnwere all in attendance.

During nationals students participated in keynote speaker sessions, farm tours, met industry professionals and toured Purdue Uniersity’s agriculture college.

The LRHS FFA chapter was recognized as a 3-Star National Chapter. A 3-Star national award is the highest and most honorable award that an FFA chapter can receive.

Only 14 of Florida’s over 300 FFA chapters including earn this honor.

At nationals FFA members took time to visit various agricultural entities such as Ozark’s Fisheries, Umbarger Feeds, Beasley’s Orchards, and Purdue University.

“I recommend it to everyone who can go,” said Flournoy. “It was an honor.  You’re able to experience FFA on a national level….something not everyone is able to do.”

LRHS agriculture teacher Janyel Taylor said, “We enjoyed meaningful sessions with powerful messages from (motivational speakers) Bob Goff, Michelle Poler, and various National FFA Officers.”
