(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) are holding a Rock the Belt campaign from Oct. 23-25 during all lunches. Students are asked to sign pledges promising to always buckle up in the car.

Members of the LRHS SADD chapter volunteered to walk around during their lunch and educate students about wearing a seatbelt. Afterwards, students were asked to sign a pledge promising to always wear their seatbelt and were handed green ribbons to tie on their lanyards.

The campaign also hosted a table with ribbons, pledges, and a trifold containing statistics about seatbelts and their significance during lunch.

SADD President senior Tayla Rosenthal said, “Those who wear seatbelts are 50% more likely to survive a car accident.”

Freshman Kaitlyn Case explained the mission of the campaign.

“It helps students understand why it is important to always wear your seatbelt and informs them on the potential lives saved,” she said.

Case later explained her work on the campaign, “We put it a lot of hard work and time into organizing the campaign, but in the end, it was worth it for the cause.”

The club hopes to receive over 800 pledges this year. Students may sign pledges up until the last lunch on Friday.
