(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – During September LRHS raised over $3,000 in donations for Hurricane Dorian relief in the Bahamas.

LRHS today presented the check for the $3,000 to the Red Cross during geography teacher Samantha Stoltz’s third period class. Stoltz’s classes raised over $900 for the effort.

The Red Cross prepared a presentation to thank Stoltz’s class and LRHS for all the money donated.

Stoltz was proud of all of her students.

“Just of the goodness of their hearts, it’s exciting to know kids wanted to help other people. There was no incentive, no pizza party, just them wanting to give purely from their free will,” she said.

Stoltz’s class raised money by collecting change in small amounts such as individual quarters or in large plastic bags of change.

Stoltz connected the tragedy in the Bahamas to her Advanced Placement (AP) Human geography curriculum. She showed her classes pictures of what happened and connected the people in the Bahamas to displaced people around the world.
