Mustang swimmers make a splash at tri-county

Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS Swim Team competed in the annual Tri-County Championship Meet on Saturday, Oct. 12 against teams from Manatee, Sarasota, and Charlotte County.

Three relay teams placed in the top five for their events. The boys’ 400-yard Freestyle Relay team consisting of sophomore Frank Runge, senior Will Reed, junior Jacob Byrd, and sophomore Dimiter Zafirov came in third place.

The girls’ 200-yard Medley Relay consisting of senior Emily Massengale, freshman Rebecca Pilcher, junior Suzanne Aguirre, and senior Katelynn Coons came in third place.

The girls’ 400-yard Freestyle Relay consisting of Coons, sophomore Phoebe Duval, Aguirre, and Massengale came in fifth place.

The swimmers that placed in the top three for individual events are Massengale, who won the girls’ 100-yard Backstroke by a whole second and placed third in the girls’ 100-yard Butterfly, Zafirov who placed second in the boys’ 100-yard Butterfly, and Runge who placed third in the boys’ 500-yard Freestyle.

The swimmers that placed in the top five for individual events are Runge who placed fifth in the boys’ 200-yard Freestyle, and Pilcher who placed fifth in the girls’ 100-yard Breaststroke.

The next meet that the LRHS Swim Team will compete in is the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) District 6 Championship Meet on Saturday, Nov. 2 in Sarasota, FL.
