free hurricane flags(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Sept. 1, 2019 Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas. Over 78,000 homes were destroyed and lives were completely devastated.  Since then LRHS assistant principal Jillian Bieber coordinated efforts to raise money for the victims.

So far, Mustangs have raised over $3000 for the Bahamas through the mixed coalition of National Honor Society (NHS), Student Government Association (SGA), front office donations, Key club, Lakewood leaders, football game donations, and over $900 raised by Geography teacher Samantha Stoltz’s classes.

Bieber was inspired to collect donations to support the hurricane victims.

“The devastation,” she said.  “I was driving to work, and I wondered how LRHS could make a difference; I talked to Principal Dahlquist about the fundraiser and he said go ahead.”

Bieber added, “I’m very proud that we came together as a school for such a worthy cause, I believe that even small contributions can make a difference.”
