(Lakewood Ranch, FL)- LRHS Lakewood Loves Animals (LLA) has launched their Adopt Don’t Shop Campaign.

One of the main objectives of the club is to raise awareness on the harm in buying domesticated animals from pet stores and explain why adoption is a better alternative.

LLA invited chalk artist Matt McAllister to teach members how to create chalk art to advocate for the importance animal rescue facilities.

Lakewood Loves Animals decorated numerous campus areas.

Members stayed after school under the guidance of McAllister to decorate the campus with the chalk designs, hoping to get the message across to as many people as possible.

The LLA advisor Catherine Franek hopes this project will impact the future of The Ranch.

“For now, we’re just trying to get the message out in whatever media we think is the best,” said Franek.

The LLA board members agreed that this idea has the potential to spread further than within the walls of LRHS if they work hard and raise awareness.

“We’re thinking of maybe doing a fundraiser in the spring and have chalk artists come to Lakewood Ranch Main Street for a competition,” said Franek.

LLA is currently forming connections with local event coordinators to decide on an appropriate day, time, and location for their chalk contest.

Possible proceeds will be donated to local shelters in need of money, such as Manatee County Animal Services.
