(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – At 6 p.m., Oct. 9, the LRHS Psychology Club, Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital, and the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) will collaborate to host a suicide awareness event at LRHS.
“Ending the Silence, a Night with the Experts,” the event is purposed to keep both children and adults educated about mental health disorders in children and adolescents.
The event will consist of a presentation from a NAMI leader and a young adult who struggled with a mental health condition, followed by a question and answer session with Johns Hopkins professionals. Afterwards, dinner and refreshments will be provided.
The event is a landmark in mental health awareness.
“Lakewood Ranch will be the first school to work with Johns Hopkins on an event like this,” said LRHS Advanced Placement (AP) psychology teacher and Psychology Club adviser Heather Selens. “I hope we see people from every part of the community.”
The event is free to attend, and all students, parents, and teachers are welcome. The presentations will take place in the LRHS auditorium and will end around 8 p.m.
