(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – After losing to two of the top volleyball teams in the state, the Mustangs are ready to return to their winning ways with a home game against Sarasota on Oct. 7.

Prior to last week the Mustangs had won their last seven matches in a row.

This ended Sept. 30 when the Mustangs had to play the 11th ranked team in the state, the Riverview Rams.

Varsity played hard but eventually lost 0-3.

Freshman and junior varsity (JV) also played that night, both winning 2-0.

That following Thursday, the Mustangs’ traveled to Venice High to play the Indians.

Varsity faced off against the 40th ranked team the state and came within less than seven points each set but ended up losing 0-3.

Freshman and JV also played, with freshman winning 2-0 and JV losing 0-2.

The Mustangs’ next home game will be Monday against Sarasota High.

This will also be “senior night” where the team’s six seniors, Anna Shelby Dees, Sam van ver Sommen, Yami Zamarripa, Paytton Yancey, Morgan Budinich, and Claire Davidson will be recognized.

Dees said, “It’s crazy to me that my best friends and I are seniors… I remember watching the older girls have their senior nights, but it doesn’t feel like it’s finally my turn!”

Planned by the LRHS Stampede spirit club, the theme will be western.

Freshman will play at 5 p.m., JV at 6 p.m., and varsity at 7 p.m.
