Angelina Ortiz – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Swim Team hosted their final home meet on Wednesday at the Lakewood Ranch YMCA. This meet was the team’s annual Senior Night, celebrating the 12 seniors competing in their final season.
The Senior Night ceremony recognized the senior swimmers and their parents. Each senior prepared a short biography describing his or her accomplishments in high school swimming as well as their plans for the future.
“It’s celebrating their accomplishments with the team, and it’s good for the parents to have one final home meet to see their kids swim and do a good job,” said head coach Kyle Steinberg. “Hopefully they can develop memories both at this meet and for the past few seasons that they’ve been with us, so they can look back fondly on their swimming career here at LRHS.”
The LRHS Swim Team competed in the annual Tarpon Invitational Meet on Saturday, Sept. 21 in Punta Gorda against 14 other teams from all around the state. The boys came in seventh place, and the girls came in ninth.
Some individual winners in the Tarpon Meet include senior Emily Massengale in the girls 100-yard Butterfly and the girls 100-yard Backstroke, and sophomore Dimiter Zafirov in the boys 100-yard Butterfly. Massengale also broke the pool record for this event while achieving a personal best time of 57.12 seconds.
