Jaime Gutierrez – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS boys and girls cross country teams Saturday traveled to North Port and competed in the North Port invitational sponsored by social media influencer Danny Duncan. The event features a live DJ, drum line and concession stand.
Junior cross-country runner Riley Bradshaw said, “Despite not running as fast as I wanted to the meet was super fun with the music and getting to watch the coaches dance at the end was great, overall the race wasn’t difficult at all, and the weather conditions were spectacular.”
With the North Port Invite having all this fun, it meant that it included the participation of a lot of schools. There were so many students in attendance that it had multiple racing divisions.
The girls qualified to compete in the elite division; this division had some of the best schools and individuals across Florida.
Sophomore Jessica Neal lead the way for the Mustangs, placing 11th in the race with her own personal record (PR) of 18.48.44, followed by sophomore Aurora Melzer placing 20th with a time of 19:27.56. Overall, the team finished fifth with 202 total points.
The boys competed in the large schools division. Leading the boys in scoring was Junior Owen Catlett, who placed 56th with a time of 18:42.02. Not too far behind Catlett was junior Tanner Toler, he placed 69th with a time of 18:59.93.
