Jenna Hernandez– Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- “13 Reasons Why” has been on for almost three years now and is one of the most popular shows on Netflix.
While season one of “13 Reasons Why” was a massive success, season two, on the other hand, drew widespread criticisms from fans and critics alike only scoring a 25% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Now it’s time for season three. It has been a year since Hannah Baker’s (Katherine Langford) death and with everyone recovering from the trial, news arrived that Bryce Walker (Justin Prentice) had been killed. With the many enemies that the character made in the show, the question of who killed him remains.
The season starts out by introducing a new character, Ani Achola (Grace Saif). After this character is introduced, it is explained in the dialogue of the first scene that she will be the narrator of this season.
Bringing a brand-new character in with such a major role was a very risky decision for the writers. There had to have been questions as of, “How would the audience react to the character? Would she help bring the story along? Is she replacing Hannah as Clay’s (Dylan Minnette) new love interest?”
Clay’s love interest was in big question when he said “goodbye” to Hannah at her funeral at the end of season two. Now with the character of Hannah Baker gone for good, everyone can’t help but whether Clay even fits into the storyline anymore.
With the show already writing out five of the main characters, viewers can see how show runners may desperately hold on to Clay in an important light for the show.
The show also keeps its general flashback-to-present timeline, often depicting past events. In previous seasons, it was easier to follow with scenes taking place in the past featuring Hannah. However, with Hannah gone from the show the transitions in the timeline are less obvious.
Now with one season left in the series, we are looking forward to seeing how the rest of the characters’ senior years will play out.
