(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Devastation struck the Bahamas last week as Hurricane Dorian swept through the Caribbean nation.

The storm left over 70,000 people in need of food and shelter. LRHS’s Key Club, Student Government, National Honor Society, and Lakewood Leaders are putting together a fundraiser to help these victims.

Starting Wednesday, cash donation buckets will be provided before school and at all lunches. The donation buckets will also be available at the pep rally Friday during school and at the football game Friday night. Donations will also be accepted through the school website.

Leaders from the participating clubs say If every student and staff member donated just $2.00, Mustangs would raise collectively over $5,000. All proceeds collected will be donated to the Red Cross to help the victims of Dorian.

Lakewood Leaders secretary Hannah Miller, junior, said, “Dorian impacted so many people’s lives in such an extreme capacity.  If we can raise any amount of  money and awareness to help get their lives back on track after this storm’s destruction, that’s incredible.”
