Mustang girls speed to success in Venice

Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Last weekend the LRHS Cross Country team attended the Venice Invitational at Venice High School.

The Lady Mustangs finished first overall with a score of 46 points. Sophomore Jessica Neal finished first for the team with a time of 20:23.87.

Lady Mustangs coach, Kristin Wikstrom shared, “Overall I am proud of how we performed as a team. I am excited and curious of what the future will hold for us.”

Boys Varsity Captain junior Jaime Gutierrez finished first for the boys with a time of 18:58.48. Gutierrez said, “So far this season I am content with how we are performing; however we have some improving to do and I believe we have the potential to do so.”

In total the varsity boys finished fifth out of twelve with 121 points.

Boys Varsity Coach Bill Zarella said, “The boys finish was strong, but our overall performance needs work. We wi9ll be able to fix this through weekly workouts, and long runs.”

The next meet will take place on Sept. 20 at North Port High School.
