(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Last Wednesday, Aug. 21 LRHS Boys’ soccer team had a meeting about the new year ahead.

Coach Vito Bavaro said the boys will conditioning after school on Thursdays. These practices will be led by the team’s captain to weed out students who are not serious about playing soccer.

These practices will run until October 21 which is the team’s first tryout date.

Bavaro said that the main goal of these captain practices is to prepare for the season.

“I want to make sure that the kids are in shape and are ready for the season. My tryouts are always very tough and it’s tough to make the team because we’ve had so much success in the previous years,” said Bavaro.

The boys soccer team has won seven straight district titles and that is again the goal for this year.

“Our goal first and foremost is to win the district, so we have to win as many games as possible and then see what the playoffs bring us,” said Bavaro.

Bavaro explained that there are lots of opportunity for new athletes to take up better positions this year, “We lost a lot of starters, so there is a lot of opportunity for younger kids to step into those roles. That hasn’t happened in a long time so there is going to be lots of competition for this year.”

If students have more questions, they can ask Coach Bavaro in Room 523.
