Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Tuesday night, the LRHS freshman, junior varsity (JV), and varsity volleyball teams faced off against their rivals, the Braden River Pirates, at BRHS.

The freshman team started the night off strong for the Mustangs beating the Pirates, 2-0.

The JV team followed and despite a rocky start, won 2-1 versus the Pirates.

Sophomore Mallory Lloyd said, “After losing the first set we really stepped it up. A lot of us were nervous for this game and the first set helped get all of the nerves out which let us play a good and clean game for the second and third sets and winning them.”

Lastly, in front of a nearly sold out crowd of fans from both schools, the two varsity teams took the court.

The Pirates took the first set 25-20, but the Mustangs went into the second set with a fire lit under them, falling just short, losing 26-24. The Pirates won the last set, 25-14.

LRHS will continue their season with another home game against Manatee High on Thursday Sept. 5 at 6 p.m.
