(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Thursday night the varsity Mustangs football team secured their first victory of the season.  In fact, it was the Mustangs’ first win after an 0-10 season in 2018.

The Mustangs beat Lemon Bay High School 19-9 at Veterans Stadium. This was the first game of the season due to scheduling issues and rainouts.

The Mustangs took over the game with a touchdown from senior Michael Cucci and with an extra point scored by senior Matt Luh.

Later, Cucci received another pass from sophomore quarterback Cameron Madison, giving the Mustangs an early 13-0 lead.

As the game progressed the Mustangs scored another touchdown in the third quarter. To finish the game, Lemon Bay received its first touchdown at the end of the fourth quarter.

Offensive linesman Garrett Mancini, senior, explained, “It was a hard-fought win, but we were able to do it because of the training we endured in the summer. Sometimes it just comes down to who wants it more, and in that moment, we wanted it.”

Mancini later explained that there is still room for improvement, and many areas to be worked on.

After the game head football coach Rashad West told HT Preps, “I’m happy for the kids and the parents and for everyone in the community who has been supporting the program through rough times, so it’s great to get a win.”

Next week the Mustangs are scheduled to play their first home game against Bayshore High.
