NEWS(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- This summer, July 30 – Aug 1, the LRHS Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program hosted their fourth annual summer Prep-Program. The purpose of the program was to prepare incoming freshman (LET 1s), who are just joining the program, by introducing them to the basics of JROTC.

Over the course of the three days, cadets learned the ranks, the cadet creed and drill. They were also introduced to the Class B uniform, which is the uniform that all cadets are required to wear on Mondays.

Senior Delta Company First Sergeant Angelita Martinez taught and demonstrated proper uniform standards to the cadets.

“For LET 1s who are really interested, it’s a really good way for them to get an idea of what goes on in the program,” said Martinez, “Cadets were learning really quickly and loving the program.”

Cadets also got the chance to interact with their Battalion leadership.

Freshman Nathan Bell attended the program.

“Working with all the leadership was the best part but learning the basics like drill, rank, and creed was super useful,” said Bell.

Junior Kora Turner, Alpha Company Executive Officer, and Senior Nicholas Stanley, Charlie Company First Sergeant, taught and trained cadets in drill and facing movements.

“It was really fun to get to know the cadets and help them get a head start for the new year. I think they did really well,” said Turner.

All the Cadets that attended the prep program were promoted to either Private (PVT) or Private First Class (PFC), which are the first two ranks of the ranking system.
