Chris Georgas – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Thursday, Aug. 29 the LRHS Psychology Club will hold its first meeting for the 2019-2020 school year. The club, mostly focused on activities based on psychological concepts, has been missing from LRHS for a year.
The club had been put on hold after former adviser and psychology teacher Dave Frantz departed from LRHS.
“When students showed interest to me personally, I knew it was something I could turn into a valuable student experience,” said new club adviser Heather Selens. “I want to build the club into something like a family, just like my classes.”
The club plans on expanding on the concepts learned in LRHS’ Advanced Placement (AP) Psychology classes while participating in enriching activities and community service opportunities.
“We’re having a collaboration with the Johns Hopkins All Children’s hospital in October with community service opportunities for club members,” Selens said. “It’s good to see the club reach beyond the psychology classroom.”
The club’s student leadership feel equally enthusiastic.
Club officer Kara Smith stated, “We have so many events planned for the students already! Participation in the club will be rewarding even for students not involved in an AP Psychology class.”
Students with questions about the Psychology Club can contact Heather Selens in room 533.
