The LRHS varsity volleyball Mustangs look to bounce back from early season defeat.

Freshman Sydney Sprague said, “I feel that it’s a great to start the season with a win. It gets us in the right mindset for the rest of the season and helps us calm our nerves. Last night (before the game) we were all nervous, but as the game went on and everything fell into place, we all felt more comfortable and worked really hard as a team.”

JV followed, losing 1-2.

Junior right-side Ashley Franklin said,” I feel like overall we did really good. This was our first game so we were still tweaking the lineup and positions. Our coach had a lot of players in different positions and I think everyone did a great job stepping up and playing whatever they were asked.”

Varsity finished off the night losing 0-3.

Junior defensive specialist AJ Sprague said, “Even though we lost, we learned a lot from last night. In general, I feel like we need to communicate more and serve more aggressively. Riverview has really good serve receive and we need to make them work more for their points.”

JV and varsity’s next games are scheduled for 6 and 7 p.m. on Thurs Aug. 22 at home against Bradenton Christian. Freshman will play Venice on Tues Aug. 27.
