(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS boys’ cross-country team has a new coach, Bill Zarrella.

Zarrella decided to coach alongside his daughter, LRHS girls Kristin Wikstrom this year. Before starting at LRHS, he coached track for eight years in Massachusetts and has been an avid runner for many years.

Zarrella plans to enforce the correct stretches and emphasize the importance of hydration to the athletes.

“Being in Florida, dehydration is a big concern,” said Zarrella. “It is really important that I stay on top of the boys about staying hydrated before, during, and after practice.”

Junior Gavin Laielli discussed the upcoming season with his new coach and said, “Overall I am prepared for the upcoming season, and I am very content with the way Coach Zarrella coaches. I love the experience he has combined with Coach Wikstrom’s style of coaching.”

The Mustangs’ first competition is scheduled for Aug. 24 at the Jim Ryun invitational in Lakeland.

Zarella’s goal for the season is for the boys to make it out of the regional meet in October and make it to States at Florida State University in Tallahassee.
