Cross country ready to run

Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS cross country team has already started preparing for the upcoming season. In order to participate, runners must have a physical prior to coming to practice.

Practice will be held every day after school until 4:45. Each week, runners will have the opportunity to become the team’s “Athlete of the Week” by demonstrating hard work, sportsmanship, and positive attitude.

The first meet is scheduled for Holloway Park in Lakeland next Saturday. The coaches will determine the varsity and JV teams Friday during the inter-squad meet where athletes will be able to demonstrate their potential.

Athletes will be able to compete each meet for a spot on the varsity roster. If the times of a JV athlete are faster than that of a varsity runner, the JV runner will replace the last runner on varsity.

Every year, the athletes nominate and vote a team captain to manage the team and work with the coaches. This year’s team captains are senior Mason Ingallinera.  The Mustang boys are currently voting on theirs.

“I’m really excited to watch the girls improve from last season and crush it this year,” shared Ingallinera, “I’m optimistic for what this season has to hold and can’t wait to continue to make memories and PRs (Personal Records).”

Coach Kristin Wikstrom posts weekly updates to her website including, athlete of the week, meet dates, practice times and general information.
