(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS softball team continues to storm through the season with a perfect record after winning the Class 8A-Region 2 semifinal game Wednesday night.

The team defeated Tarpon Springs East Lake, taking home the win in the fifth inning 10-0, ending the game in a mercy rule. The Mustangs are ranked first in the nation with a record of 28-0.

Junior Rachel Monroe said, “The team deserved this win. I knew we could do it because we all work so well together as a team.”

Junior Kali Reis said the girls look forward to the rest of the post-season.

“We had a goal from the beginning of the season to win it all,” she said.  “We are playing with a real sense of purpose .”

LRHS coach TJ Goelz told the Bradenton Herald, “We got the bats going early and we were ready to attack. Our offense is in sync right now, and if we come out swinging the bats like that against whoever we play, we’ve got a pretty good chance.”

The Mustangs will host the regional final against the Tampa Sickles 7 p.m. on Friday.
