(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The Lakewood Ranch Mustangs Girl’s Lacrosse team gave their final farewells to the season Thursday night at their 2019 Girl’s Lacrosse banquet. Speeches were given and memories were made as the Mustangs looked over the season.

Their last game also served as their senior night on April 12, the Mustangs going out with a bang and beating the Cardinal Mooney Cougars 15-14 in overtime. The game-winning goal was shot by senior Bella Yost. Yost, who is also a captain, took the spotlight with five goals, being joined by junior Alyssa Bradford with three goals, and sophomores Erika Lyvers, Jessie Carff, and Meghan Lamas, each scoring two.

“It felt like winning the lottery,” Coach Samantha Stoltz said, thinking back to the win.

“It felt like I was in a dream,” Yost added.

The team’s final record was 7-8, a drastic jump from their 3-10 record the previous year.

Leading the team were seniors Marissa Bocarossa and Bella Yost, sophomores Meghan Llamas, Kora Turner, and Jessie Carff.  Llamas scored 36 goals and 14 assists. On the field Yost had 39 ground balls and Carff won 77 draws. In goal Bocarossa made 35 saves and Turner made 75.

Stolts foresees continued improvement for the program.

“I see us steadily climbing the ranks throughout the districts,” she said with a smile.

The Mustangs will lose eight seniors to graduation in 2019.
