Gavin Laielli and Anna Stock – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This weekend eight LRHS Mustangs competed at track states at the University of North Florida. Athletes from three regions and 16 districts braved some rough weather May 3-4.
LRHS track coach Jeff Simmons said, “Besides all the rain delays, kids competed at their best and gave it their all. I am happy with the results and excited to see them perform further and achieve greatness in the future.”
The top LRHS finishers of the weekend included junior Ava Klein and seniors Jonathon Reid and James Rivera.
Klein participated in the girls 300m and placed fourth in the state, Reid raced in the boys 800m and placed second while Rivera finished third in the boys 110m hurdles.
Other athletes that competed included –
- Senior Paris Pratt in the shot put
- Sophomore Eli Newman in the pole vault
- Senior Emma Donato in the 4×400 relay
- Junior Madeline McNinch in the 200m and 4×400 relay
- Samantha Van der Sommen in the high jump
- Sophomore Sydney Granack in 300m hurdles and 4×400
- Sophomore Riley Simmons in the shot put
Senior competitors are also a great loss to the Track and Field program. Seniors such as Reid, Pratt, Rivera and Donato have all devoted their high school careers, now coming to an end. to running.
Distance Coach Kristin Wikstrom commented, “This year culminated in many successes at the state level. All athletes stepped up to the plate and gave it their all. While some of our seniors finished up their high school careers, the future looks bright for our running Mustangs.”
