Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Monday night, the LRHS volleyball team held its largest fundraiser of the year, the boys volleyball tournament.

The players from the LRHS volleyball team were the coaches to the boys. Before the tournament the teams practiced once to prepare for the tournament.

LRHS volleyball coach Perri Hankins said it was a successful night.

“We had ten teams in the tournament,” she said.  “Every sport was represented and that was really cool.

“We do this for the boys, really,” she continued.  “It connects our team with all the boy athletes and that’s a cool bonding opportunity.  This year, we had more younger players than in the past so hopefully they’ll come back for years to come.”

Hankins said the event raised around $800.

One of the coaches was Junior Yami Zamarripa said, “It was funny to watch all the guys play volleyball because I’m used to playing with girls who know what they are doing, and all of the boys had no idea what they were doing.”

There were six guys per team with one player as a coach. The team that won was the basketball players, coached by junior Paytton Yancey.
