sadd logo(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – On Monday LRHS Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) announced their officers for the 2019-2020 school year.

The process for electing officers for SADD changed this year from the past.  This year SADD added interviews to the procedure of giving speeches to fellow club members. After counting the votes cast by the members based on the candidate’s speeches and the interviews conducted by the current officers board members, the new board was decided.

The officers are as follows –

  • President – Junior Tayla Rosenthal
  • President-Elect – Sophomore Gigi Miles
  • Vice President – Junior Grant Schmid
  • Secretary – Junior Brooke Martin
  • Treasurer – Junior Parker Venuto
  • Public Relations – Sophomore Cameron Bender

Rosenthal is a junior and the past president/current president of SADD. She started this club the summer before her sophomore year at LRHS to bring attention to the poor choices’ teens tend to make in their everyday lives

The club shines a light on the harm these decisions can cause by showing the effects on their growing bodies and minds. For example, the damage of drugs on mind and body or the effects of not getting enough sleep.

Rosenthal said, “My sophomore year when I started the club, we had only 20 students and had only a couple events, but now the club has grown vastly in size. We now have 60+ members and are planning to have at least one event a month.”

This year SADD has added the position of president-elect to ensure the clubs growth carries on at the same speed it has been.

“I added the position of president elect so that I am able to train the next president before I graduate. I am excited for the year to come and being SADD president for the 3rd year,” said Rosenthal.
