(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members traveled to Orlando for the State Leadership Conference (SLC), hosting Students Taking Action through Recognition (STAR) competitions.

LRHS sophomore and chapter member Yanerick Bravo said “States was a great experience. From competition and finding out you’re going to nationals to the great general session. It made all the hard work on our project’s worth it. States helped me create bonds and friendships with many people that I didn’t know I could bond with. I wouldn’t trade this FCCLA experience for anything.”

All the competitors participating at SLC presented their projects at a district competition and then advanced. For some members this is the first time, and others are more experienced.

Sophomore Ruhi Amin said “Joining FCCLA was a great decision and choosing to compete was an even better one. I made so many new friends and met so many amazing people and had the opportunity to create life long bonds. Overall, it was one of the best times of my life and I am looking forward to nationals in Anaheim, California. I’m even more thrilled to do it all again next year.”

Besides the competitions, members participated in general sessions, inductions of the new state officers and much more. With a total of nine members qualifying for National competition, LRHS FCCLA adviser Elaine Bowling called it an “extremely successful and exciting event.”
