(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Both the boys and girls LRHS tennis teams finished their 2019 season strong. The girls finished their season 6-4, and the boys finished the season 6-3.

Sophomore Joey Wietecha, who has played tennis at LRHS since his freshmen year, stated, “This year was a lot more competitive than last year. I feel like everyone has improved a lot this season.”

Junior Annaliese Prium, stated that, “The toughest game this season was the game against Manatee, because that was the first game we lost. We ended up losing 1-5, but I learned that if you are not confident, your mind will reflect how you play.”

Even though both teams weren’t undefeated, that does not mean they did not play well.

“A good season is not about winning, its learning how to play better and bettering your skills,” head coach Ed Bongart said.

The teams had nine matches in total, five away and four home. The teams were close to making districts, but Bongart stated, “There’s always next year, and there’s always room for improvement.”

This season has taught the boys and girls teams a lot. They are planning to use this season to push them all next season.

Even though next season is far away, Bongart stated, “The loses were hard on the teams, but this taught them to work hard and learn how to gain confidence.”
