(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Thursday the Lakewood Ranch FFA Chapter hosted the 2019 District X Ornamental Horticulture Demonstrations.  The Mustangs did extremely well, taking home 4 medals.

LRHS FFA members show off their success.

Winning first place in Marketing, junior Skyler Pedersen and sophomore Mady Flores will advance to the State Competition.  Junior Hailey Mahoney placed second for Consumer use and sophomore Kora Turner placed second for Landscaping. And placing third were senior Savanah Freitag and junior Chloe Flournoy.

Entering the competition, the students felt good and confident in their topics.

“I think I did really well in my topic. What I did was a new topic to me, and the judges gave really great compliments,” said Turner.

The team met at the Manatee fairgrounds to present their 7-10-minute presentations. Judged by points, three judges judged the contestants.  Ten Lakewood Ranch members competed for medals.

The group competed against five high schools and three middle schools.

Pedersen and Flores will advance to the State Competition in April at the University of Florida.
