NEWS(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS chorus earning three excellent and one superior rating in their Musical Performance Assessment (MPA) last Friday at Venice High School,

The advanced women’s choir, mixed advance with men’s choir, and acapella all earned Excellents, while the combined women’s beginner and intermediate group earned an overall Superior.

The groups were happy to receive such high ratings but were hoping for a superior in all categories. Senior Cameron Auker was very proud of her performance.

“I think we did well, even though we didn’t make it to states (state final competition), I’m sure our teacher is very proud of us,” said Auker.

“I am definitely proud of all the groups, especially men’s choir, because this was some of the student’s first performances in front of judges,” LRHS choir teacher Giselle Panagiotakis said. “I know we can work on some things, but the judges only see a 20-minute performance compared to the hours we spend working on these performances.”

A superior is required to be able to perform at states, so the groups are not eligible to go. However, junior Morgan Kirchman was very happy with the results.

“The hard work we have put into these pieces really paid off, regardless of the ratings,” Kirchman said, “and I’m hoping we can get even further next year to states.”
