Jillian Herbst and Gaby Rosabal – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Baseball season is here and for six seniors it will be their last in high school. Senior year is exciting all around but for athletes, their senior year is where they leave it all on the field one last time.
This year’s seniors are George Davis, Josh Lundy, Gabe Silva, Grant McCray, Matt Gelorme, and Austin Jordan.
Davis is an infielder who plans to attend Florida Atlantic University to further his academic career.
“It’s a bittersweet feeling because I’m happy to move on but also sad because it could be the last time I play,” Davis said.
Lundy pitches, plays outfield, or is a designated hitter for the LRHS baseball team.
Lundy said, “I’m excited to try and make a run for a state championship. When the season is over, all the years I’ve put into baseball are coming to an end and that’s what I’m least looking forward to this year.”
Silva pitches for the boys.
“I’m excited for this season and can’t wait to see what it holds for me and the team. I will give it all for the last go around,” he said.
McCray is the starting center fielder for the team. He is a threat offensively and defensively. He recently committed to Florida State University to further his baseball and academic careers. McCray said, “I’m most excited to play Braden River this year and hopefully sweep them for the last time before I leave this school.”
Gelorme pitches and plays first base on the team. He plans to attend Florida State University. Gelorme said, “I’m anxious to see what this year holds and want to go out with bang. I’m most looking forward to making a run to the state championship.”
Jordan plays infield and catches for the team.
Senior year for the boys is their time to show that all their hours of training weren’t for nothing. The seniors are here to make a mark and can’t be more excited for their upcoming season.
