Gavin Laielli – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This past weekend, LRHS track and field took part in the Charlotte Quad meet. The girls finished in first with 157 points, while the boys finished second to IMG with a total of 118 points.
Coach Kristin Wikstrom explained, “As a whole, we are starting to see major improvement from the team, as this could advance us to the state championship in the future.”
Senior James Duffy finished first in the 3200-meter race with a time of 11:01. Junior Ava Klein and sophomore Sydney Granak surpassed their previous personal bests in the 300-meter hurdles.
Duffy said, “Overall I am content with my performances, however there is always room for improvement. My goal this season is to run a 10:40 3200-meter.”
The next varsity meet is Saturday, Feb. 30 at LRHS. Other teams attending include Charlotte, IMG, and Manatee.
Any student in need of community service hours can volunteer at the track meet on Saturday. Forms are located at Student Services and students will need to arrive by 9:30 am.
