Brady Roberts – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Tuesday night the LRHS boys’ varsity basketball team defeated the Riverdale High School Raiders 44-26 in the regional semifinal game.
This was a big game for the Mustangs because last year Riverdale knocked them out of the playoffs in a regional quarterfinal matchup.
LRHS junior Keon Buckley commented on the game, “I was super proud of how we as a team played last night. I thought we showed that we were clearly the better team and I was proud of our team for rising to the occasion.”
Buckley also mentioned how at this point in the season you can never take any team lightly.
The next game for LRHS will be the regional final this Friday against East Lake High School. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at home.
“This is going to our last and biggest home game of the year,” said LRHS senior Joshua Young. “We are going to need our student section more than ever to help us win this big game.”
The student section for LRHS, or “The Stampede,” has helped the basketball team a lot this season according to multiple players.
LRHS head varsity basketball coach Jeremy Schiller agreed with Young, “I’m excited to play in front of a huge crowd. Last time we hosted the regional final it was one of the most fun games I have ever experienced.
“Most coaches describe the regional final as more fun than the final four because it’s in your home gym,” said Schiller.
This will also be the third time in the past four years that LRHS will be playing in the regional final.
Schiller commented on the program’s consistency, “I think that the true definition of success is being consistently good. I am proud that we have been consistently winning twenty games a season and winning in the playoffs over the past four years.”
Schiller also mentioned how proud he is of the teams’ consistent academic success.
