Justin Ramon – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- These past two weeks the LRHS varsity and junior varsity (JV) wrestling teams had success at the Logan Kushner Memorial in Bradenton and the county championship event in Palmetto.
Senior Kaden Frankie is the 2019 JV Manatee County champion weighing in at 152 pounds. Other Mustangs who competed were freshman Simon Thomas, weighing 106 pounds, who had one win and three losses. Freshman Joey Wells, weighing in at 126 pounds, went 4-1. And finally, sophomore Ben Klein, weighing 120 pounds, went 3-1.
Despite the fact that head coach Tyler Small was unable to attend the event, the team did outstanding. Coach Pat Ancil took over for the event and is proud with the results of this event.
At the county championship Mustangs placed second. They competed against Palmetto, Bayshore, South East, Manatee, and Saint Stevens.
Small was confident and proud of his players.
“We finished second, which was pretty good. I predicted that’s where we would be placed. There is a lot of room for improvement, but overall we did a good job,” added Small.
Senior Andrew Henry, weighing 195 lbs, got first place in his weight division.
Small is excited and ready for regional championships.
“Overall I think we’re ready for regionals and states,” he said. “I’m very excited to compete despite how difficult it may be. We just have to work on the basics and making sure we stay in shape.”
This weekend the varsity wrestling team has districts at 8 and 10 a.m. here at the Ranch.
