Sports(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This past weekend, LRHS track and field competed at the George Jenkins Invitational in Lakeland. The girls placed third, while the guys came in 11th of 32 teams total.

Head coach Jeff Simmons explained, “Overall everyone placed well, as there is always room for improvement, however this was only the first meet of the season. There will be much more to come.”

Mustang  senior Jonathan Reid placed second in the 3200-meter run with a time of 9:36 and sophomore Riley Simmons broke the school record in the discus with a throw of 35 feet and one-half inch.

The next varsity meet is Friday, Feb. 22 at Charlotte High School. Other teams attending will include Palmetto Ridge, IMG, Manatee, and Charlotte.
