(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS softball season is here and the first home game will take place next Wednesday, Feb. 20.

Seniors Maddie Koczersut, Abby Misiura, Emily Hughes, Kayla Howald, Madison Schaefer, and Alexis Schwab will all be playing in their last season-opening home game.

Koczercut has been playing varsity softball for all four years she has been at the Ranch. Going into her last year of high school, softball can be emotional.

She said, “I will be sad when it’s over but right now I’m excited to give everything I got to try and win a state championship.”

Misiura is an outfielder who has played varsity since junior year. She just got accepted into University of Florida. She said, “This last year of high school softball will be full of memories that I will remember forever. I’m most excited for making more amazing memories with my teammates.”

Hughes is a utility player who can play almost every position. Wherever the team needs her she will be there. She will continue playing next year at State College of Florida – Manatee/Sarasota (SCF-M/S).

Howald is a dominant pitcher who has been playing varsity since junior year. She recently signed to Division 1 Campbell University where she will be continuing her academic and softball career. She said, “The hardest part of the season will be the ending. I’m sad it’ll be over but I’m also excited for the future.”

The senior catcher, Schaefer has signed to play at SCF-M/S next year. She said, “I’m excited for this season because we have so much talent and I’m excited to win. We will compete in many games and be a force to be reckoned with.”

Schwab, a senior outfielder will be attending Colorado State University for the next four years. She is currently out with an ACL injury but that won’t stop her for being there for the team. She said, “I might not be able to be in the game playing but I will support these girls through everything.”

This is the last season for the seniors and their last time to make a mark on the softball program. They all seem determined to come out with their best and have a great season.
