Chris Georgas – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – At 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, LRHS Mustangs experienced something they haven’t yet in their high school careers…a pep rally.
Students left their seventh periods early to file into the auditorium, the entire student body in one place, for a pep rally to celebrate the successes of LRHS’ athletics, especially their soccer and basketball teams.
The rally featured performances by the LRHS band, color guard and cheerleaders. Achievements of the basketball, soccer, wrestling, JROTC, band, and theatre teams were recognized.
The centerpiece of the celebration was a speech by newly appointed Principal Dustin Dahlquist, who took the position in the second semester of the 2018-2019 school year.
“I am the new and proud principal of Lakewood Ranch,” Dahlquist expressed to the students, “and here I am introducing myself to you.”
Dahlquist raised the recently won boys soccer regional trophy into the air, asking the team’s captains to come out onto the court and accept the trophy. “This doesn’t happen a lot, but it happens most often at Lakewood Ranch,” he boasted to the crowd.
To excite the students, junior Zach Weston lead the crowd in chants, and science teacher Faust Delazzer “pranced” around the court with a plastic horse head in his hands.
The players found themselves as excited as Dahlquist, “It’s cool that we were able to bring together the students like this, I’ve never seen anything like it,” said varsity soccer player junior Najji Greene.
Senior Cameron Auker was enthralled by the rally. “I can’t wait for the next one,” she added, “It was exciting.”
The students are in luck, before the rally began, Dahlquist promised the crowd, “This will not be the last time this happens.”
